How Do I Cite a Source?

We use the MLA format

You can find a computerized tool to help you generate your bibliography at Citation Machine.

Follow these Guidelines when making your Works Cited page:

o    Type the Works Cited list on a separate page.

o   Center the words, Works Cited, (no bold or underline) one inch from the top of the page.

o    Alphabetize entries by the last name of the editor or author.  If it is a title entry without an editor or author, alphabetize by the title, excluding "A," "An" and "The."  For example, a title such as "The Health Care Crisis" would be alphabetized under the letter H.

o    Begin each entry flush with the left margin; if an entry runs more than one line, indent the subsequent lines five spaces.

o    Double space within AND between entries.

o    Underline the names of books, periodicals and all titles of sources.  Put the name of the article in the source in quote marks, not the name of the periodical.

o    Never underline punctuation unless it is within the title of the publication.

o    Include page numbers only when you use a source that is part of a larger work, such as an article in a magazine.

o    If the WORKS CITED page goes on to a second page, make sure you carry over at least two sources to the next page.
